WorkSafe BC and your Renovation WCB Responsibility

Although you have certain responsibilities* to the Workers Compensation Board, you also have rights! One of the most important is; your right to know if your potential contractor has coverage or has been refused coverage, is in arrears, or is having legal problems with the Board. You get that information by requesting a Clearance Letter. This should be requested before you hire a contractor and again, BEFORE you make the final payment.

* You are responsible for the health and safety of the workers who work on your property. You can protect yourself from severe liability exposure if, you register your project (of more than 24 hours) with the Board. Confirming that your contractor has coverage and is current with their obligations to the board, will greatly reduce this exposure.
